Great camera! I have a Minolta SRT-102 also and it can match the quality of that one without a problem. I have taken many pictures with it in color and black and white. Light meter seems right on. I just open up about 1 stop and the snow it perfectly white.I really am happy with this camera! I would like to say I have had not battery problems at all! I live in the "Ice Box of the Nation" -20 F easy and have not had any problems with the batteries going dead, but it will eventually!! :)
Weakness:
No Problems! Other than it being all plastic I would say I would go for it any day! I bought it about 3 months ago now and have been using it steady ever since! I have ran every thing from Tri-x to Kodak Royal gold with great results. Great camera! Customer Service Never experienced Similar Products Used: If you dare call it similar SRT-102 is my other SLR, another wonderful camera! |

Lightweight camera
Weakness:
Lightmeter is not the most accurate, you often have to compensate exposure with +0.5 step when shooting landscapes with sunny skies (important for slides). Nice camera, good quality, for beginners and advanced photographers Similar Products Used: Nikon Fe |

First SLR. No problems yet, getting into pro work and is doing wonderfull. I can give it to my wife and stick it in dumb box mode and she takes just as good candits as I. It was great to learn on, and now I am even got it hooked up to studio strobes!!! Can do bulb shots with remote so no major flaws.
Weakness:
F$%*(en rubber eye peice has fallen off and now gone missing, anyone see one please email me!!! Autofocus can be a bit slow for moving shots, but low quality lens that came with it's problem. NONE OTHERS. If you have the little extra go for the 2000 if you are an amature and have no inseration for professionalism. If you have a little more GET the Elan or A2 (eye control optional) as you will get way more features with excessories. (All flashes will add at least 4 or 5 options!!!) Customer Service EXCELLENT. Have asked tones of questions about differnt options (flashes, upgrading the body, lenses ect.) and execlent response time (under 1 day - email, 5 minutes on phone). This camera is my first SLR but it is SO easy to use. It is as simple to use as a point and shoot, but has all the upgrade ability you could want. It is lightweight so carrying it around is not a problem. Great speed. Love the mid-film rewind. Great all around camera for the beginner.
Weakness:
The only problem I have had with the camera is the batteries. I love to take black and white photos outdoors and in Iowa it gets cold causing the camera to really use batteries. But under normal conditions NO PROBLEMS FOUND! The bottom line is this..... If you are a beginner then you can not go wrong with this camera! It is as easy to use as a 110 film camera but the kinds of pictures that can be taken are excellent. Outdoor pictures are SO BEAUTIFUL. For those indoor moments it is a fine choice. A Note from me to fellow beginners.... DO NOT CHEAT YOURSELF BUY THIS CAMERA (or the Rebel 2000) and you will have the time of your life. Customer Service Have not had to use. It's very easy to use in the auto modes and produces some wonderful photos. It has good features and is fun to carry and shoot. It is easy to program to use in the manual maodes and makes for some interesting photos.
Weakness:
Seems to like batteries, even when you leave the auto flash off. Very good camera, very easy to use in the point-and-shoot auto modes, yet it allows a lot of freedom in the manual mades. Customer Service Haven't had to use them. Similar Products Used: Nikon,Minolta |

It's cheap, and it uses all those EOS lenses- but you could say the same for Pentaxes, which have been using the same lens mount foever. Fairly idiotproof "green mode".
Weakness:
These cameras would be better off marketed as disposables. The meter lock/shift adj buttons are so tiny you'd need to have the hands of a five year old to operate them. While some intermediate features are included, such as auto breacketing and multiple-exposure, a continuous-shooting motor drive option is conspicuously absent. What were they thinking! The red-eye/AF assist light (which is disableable, contrary to a previous review) doesn't help low-light shooting at all. In fact, don't even try to shoot something in the dark with this camera, it won't work-- the whimpy flash never provides enough light; and that's if you can even get it to focus. For whatever reason, canon decided to make the flash sync 1/90... what gives? The plastic really is as cheap as others say it is; although it is light, it feels like the simple act of holding it will crush it. And the bundled 35-80 lens... let's not go there; the optics seem like they're plastic and the zoom ring rotates os easily it often accidentally turns during shooting. Oh, and there's no predictive (servo) AF. I don't care how much of a beginner you are, DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA! You pay for the name, believe me- you can get much more bang for your buck with one of the entry-level Pentaxes or Minoltas. My trusty old SF1n beats it hands dowm, despite its 10-year-old age. The bottom line is this: if you have the dexterity of a five year old, never use a flash, never shoot a moving object, you like fuzzy pictures and will never drop the camera more than one millimeter, then this is the perfect camera for you. Uses Canon lenses. Small but useful built-in flash. 3 AF selector. Light weight. More rugged than it appears.
Weakness:
Plastic lense mount. A really big lens might be a problem. Although if you are using a multi-thousand dollar lense, why are you using a $200 camera? This is a excellent beginner camera or second camera. Perhaps it's not as rugged as a F5 Nikon. But it doesn't cost thousands of dollars, and it is easily as rugged as it has to be. I've literally shredded a Rebel X, which is very similar and it was plenty tough. Customer Service Haven't needed any on any of the Canon camera's I've had. Similar Products Used: Minolta QTSi. The AF appeared to be a lot slower and unsure than the Canon. |
