Strength:

The Nikon F100 has a very solid feel, this body literally melts in your hands. View finder is very bright and clear and in my opinion, brighter than the F5. Body is made with a magnesium alloy which has a beautiful hammered surface finish. Testing the AF with my 80-200 AFS and 28-105 was simply put, unbelievable.

Weakness:

After purchasing my F100, I quickly discovered the Internal LED "Viewfinder Display" was not working properly, only the bottom half of the display functioned. The result of this manufacturing error cut all the display numbers in half. I was really dismayed that a professional high end body made by Nikon would fail quality control checks of this magnitude.

The F100 lacks color matrix metering, and unfortunately... has no mirror lockup. The feel of this baby F5 makes a much more durable and solid impression than its cousin, the F90.
Again, this is a new camera fresh out of the box. I pray that the "View Finder Display" problem previously mentioned, will be the only problem I experience in the next few years.
I'm sure with Nikon's reputation and my experience with Nikon products over the past 20+ years, the F100 will be a camera of choice for any serious photographer that requires state of the art and highly durable photographic equipment.

Strength:

Superb handling, solid, quite, reasonably light for the capabilities built in. Excellent customization.

Weakness:

Eyepiece cover will be easy to lose.

An outstanding camera. Excellent AF and metering technology that works without intruding into the photographic experience. Ergonomics is excellent, controls are easy to use. Customization offers several excellent options to the standard camera functions. I'll be adding an N80 when the new camera is available to get a ligher, cheaper body with built-in flash that can more easily go with me on risky river trips and such. Risking the F100 to loss or damage makes me a bit squeamish. Perhaps it's too nice and expensive for my intended use. At the $1200 I paid, I consider it a bargain compared to the F5 which is way too large and heavy for my shooting.

Strength:

Very solid, Fast, accurate and a joy to use.

Weakness:

Maybe lack of Mirror lock.

This is an excellent camera which will out perform all of its rivals. It has got the quality of the legendary F5. There are hardly any internal viberations and it is very quiet and fast. My pictures have been extremely sharp that I can not tell the difference between my Nikkors and Carl Zeiss's that I use. The flsh photography is also execellent once you have leanrned how a Nikon camera behaves ( I always use a +0.7 on the flash). The fill in flash is just excellent. The controls are well laid and easy to learn how to use the camera to its full potential. Outstanding.

Strength:

The F100 is a rugged and durable camera with a multitude of features. One of the absolute keys to buying this camera (over an N90s) is the ease of using those features.

Weakness:

The self timer function would not deactivate back to single or continuous mode. The store demo model had the same problem. (I was given a new F100 and am completely problem free!!!)

Simply, you are hard pressed to beat this camera. Being an outdoor wildlife photographer, and future dentist, has lead me to have a very critical eye for quality. As for why not the N90s or F5? The N90s was not as solid, or feature packed. The F5 was too expensive, HEAVY, and I thought I would have little use for the color matrix metering. Even though I have been an avid Nikon lover for over 15 years I decided to give every manufacturer a chance. I still came back to the Nikon F100. It arguably has all of the features of the others, so I won't list them. What pushed me to the F100 was the solid feel and focusing system (FAST). I just couldn't get used the the EOS3 system. To be honest, when you spend $1000 for a camera body, I think you will have a hard time finding a bad one. With the Nikon, I know that I got the best for me.

Customer Service

Indirectly, Nikon customer service was top notch. They worked with me and my dealer to determine the problem and I got a new F100. I don't think that this is any fault of the F100, just a couple of bad cameras passed quality control by error.

Strength:

It's easy to think of the F100 as a baby F5 or an N90s on steroids! It combines the best traits of these two cameras plus some unique features of its own.

Weakness:

None whatsoever.

Is it perfect? No, of course not. The addition of MLU and an internal viewfinder shutter would have been nice. But an F100 so equipped would have, practically speaking, made the F5 obsolete. If you really need MLU, interchangible viewfinders and 8 fps. film speed - buy the F5. If not, the F100 is an excellent choice!

I chose this camera mainly for 2 reasons: 1) It's ruggedness, and 2) it's autofocus speed and acuracy.

Weakness:

None

I know there are alot of Canon folks that aren't going to like my comments, but here they are anyway. Choosing the F100 was made even easier by playing with an EOS 3. The back wall of a local camera shop where I was comparing these two cameras is red with silver lines in it. The Canon kept jumping in and out of focus when trying to lock on that wall. The F100 nailed it right the first time and held focus. The F100's rapid and accurate focus coupled with it's "rock covered in rubber" construction sold me!

Customer Service

Never needed to use it.

I have always been a die hard Nikon camera person. The F100 took me to a new level of ease with extreme percision to detail. I found it easy to use yet with more options than I could dream of for the reasonable price.

Weakness:

I have not had any problems with my Nikon F100. I have put it to some tests and so has my three year old,it has maintained it's high quality.

The bottom line is that this is a great camera. The price makes it even a better deal for the photographer.

Customer Service

I have never had to use the customer service department. When I have had questions that answers were easy to find in the instruction mannual.

Comfortable and secure in my hand, user-friendly -- dials and buttons strategically placed, control panel lights up, and almost endless functionality.

Weakness:

none so far

All I can say is wow. Going between my N70 and F3 was like going from one extreme to another. The F3 is sooo easy to use, while the usability of the N70 is too complex...robs the joy of photography. The F100 fits perfectly between the two: has all of the technological advances of the N70 plus some, but with the ease of use and professional results of the F3...plus some. The F100 also is wonderful to hold. Figuring out how to use it just to take a manually controlled pic didn't require studying the manual.
