This lens takes awesome pics, I use it alot for near/far compositions, CRC-feature seems to work well. It`s has an incredible depth of field. Although I do not shoot wide open very often I`m very satisfied with the pics where I did. (I don`t know how to explain this otherwise in english, sorry): If you look into the viewfinder, the lines at the edges are straight, not curved; it seems in other words to be very well build.
My front element seems to be a little bit lose, always was, but as I have experienced this with the AF 28/2.8 and AF 20/2.8 aswell, I guess this is a construction thing against extreme cold and warm temperatures or something! Perhaps this is what others call "damped"!(?) It has never affected my pics.
A recommendation to everyone who`s doing extreme wide-angel, near/far compositions, landscapes and dokumentation. More useful than a 28mm, still not so extreme as the 20mm, which sometimes isn`t that much of an "allrounder" IMO (Friends of mine have these, I`ve compared all three of them for a short period of time, was glad I went for the 24mm).
Go for it! It`s worth the money.

Once called for a question, seemed nice, never have had to use it though.

This is a great lense with awesome sharpness and very little distortion. It is lightweight and sturdily constructed. The CRC mechanism is excellent for wide angle images. This is a awesome lense to use on my f100s and it seems to stay on one of them all the time.

Sharpness is just beautiful

This is the lens to have if your into landscape. I also use mine with wildlife setting up my camera and remote triggering it.

This lens had great sharpness and just about no lightfall off. With being such a wide angle shooting the sky for a lightfall off test is useless. You are shooting such a wide angle that the sky isn't a consistant colour anyway. This is a lens that you will reach for whenever you see a landscape. Buy one

Great Manual Feel.
It seems like everything fits in the field of view.
Very sharp.
Light weight and small size.
52mm filters.

Weakness:

I cannot think of any.

Great Lens. This lens is real easy to use and is very convenient. The price is right, and the filters work with the AF50/1.8. Buy it, you'll like it.

Strength:

small, sharp, 52mm filter size, edge to edge bite

Weakness:

non D version

This is the sharpest lens I own right now (sorry 50mm AF 1.8). I also have the 24-120 which is superb by the way. The 24 prime lens is so small and compact- it is always with me on my compact manual body. And it takes on cheap 52mm filters and adapters- great for landscapes and all kinds of funky flitration. From F4 onward, it can produce pro class sharpness. The contrast and sharpness runs from the center to the very edge of the frame, which most wide angle lenses can't match- especially any point and shoot lense. Even though my 24-120, which is delegated to general and convenience shooting, is pretty good, the 24 prime is noticeably snappier all the way to the corners. So useful and it really doesn't overlap my 24-120 like I thought. Bargain prices used and even new because of the current rebate promotion. Some say the manual versions are better for manual focus- heck yeah. I like the AF verion because I can take advantage of both systems. An excellent lens for those who know how to use it.

Strength:

Light, VERY sharp and clear.

Weakness:

None that I have found yet.

A great lens with many possible uses when you want to get in close and still get everything in the frame. Previous reviews of this lens were most helpful in my decision to purchase and I have not been disappointed.

Customer Service

Not needed from the factory. Nikon tech at a recent service clinic was most interested and helpful with my F2 when he had a look at it a month ago. It is still as good as the day I got it!

Small, small, small!
minimal distortion for a wide angle and Great price

Weakness:

I cannot stress more that this lens is super sharp, small in overall dimension and weight, and very affordable. Moreover, this lens produces very little distortion and allows you to focus quite close to your objects and you can thus use it for taking pictures of people. A must-own lens in my opinion!

Customer Service

Excellent. Nikon tech support responds all my questions by e mail within 24 hr.
