Neutral colors and feels good.

A good lens and not expensive. If u dont have much cash but want a good lens this is the one. But for those who have money I think the 100-400 is better, i´ll buy that one later.

Strength:

Good sharpness through the range, low vignetting, inexpensive

Weakness:

Could be better on 300 mm, a bit slow on focusing

This lens is I think a very good lens for the money. Recommended

Strength:

multifunctional, lightweight, compact, easy to use.
USM works as advertised; it's a gimmick, but a nice one.

Weakness:

Grainy at 200 mm plus in low-medium light conditions (twilight, indoor stadiums)

Nothing but joy for the amateur on a budget. Bought this as a 2nd lens to go with the standard EOS 28-80mm lens. Photos of fast-paced indoor sports like basketball are underexposed even on 800 film--they won't come out looking like the cover of SI, but if you need that kind of result, you won't even be looking in this price range. Also has worked fantastically in nature photography.

Strength:

Quiet
Good for wildlife close-ups and portraits

Weakness:

I had first decided on Tamron's 75-300, which was cheaper and generally received better reviews, but opted for Canon's when I heard how quiet the USM motor was. The pictures I've taken with this lens have been considerably sharper then the ones I have taken with my Canon 28-90mm. I'm sure there are better lenses out there, but who has that kind of money?

Strength:

Great Price, Good quality, nice pictures even at 300mm. Ideal for the amateur photographer

Weakness:

autofocus somewhat slow, not ideal for indoor photography

I bought this lens to complement my 35-80mm one and am very happy thus far. I've done both indoor and outdoor photography with it. Outdoors, its fantastic. Smooth zoom, decent autofocus, although somewhat slow in some cases. I really like the range on the lens for sports photography, you can be a ways away from the action and still get a good picture. Indoors the story isn't so great, but its still usable in a well lighted room. I'm able to get 1/30th of a second at f5.6, which isn't great, but is usable.

The key is the price. To improve on its weaknesses, you're going to spend a lot of money. If you're an amateur(like myself) looking for a nice zoom lens, look no further. You're going to spend a lot more money to get something better.

Strength:

Lightweight, good zoom range. Good outdoor lens.

Weakness:

Lens is quite a bit "soft" compared to the L series that I use.

Would make a good beginning zoom lens in the 300mm range. Lightweight, though soft on the pictures compared to any of the L lenses. Lens tends to drift in focus after some use, meaning that after a couple of years, don't expect the non L lenses to stay in tack sharp focus. Mine had a problem with focusing at 300mm with a 1n and A2 body. Would always need to be switched to manual focus for "touch up". Almost the same symptom as the older Nikon 80-200 2.8 lens. Camera would say it's in focus...slides, pictures and my eyes would say otherwise. Worked great when new...doesn't age very well due to high level of use.

If you use a camera only a few times a year then this would be a good lens. If you're a well heeled amatuer, semi pro or pro, don't think of getting this lens. It won't take the rigors of pro use. Save up for the L lenses if you use your camera alot.

Customer Service

Had lens repaired once...didn't fix the problem.

Strength:

good lens from 75-200 @ at least f8. Performs as expected for the price

Weakness:

Vignetting at 300mm. Slow AF...Slow lens, period.

If you must have a zoom of this nature, and you cannot afford anything else, than maybe this is the "right" lens for you. If you can wait, save up your pennies and get something better, do so. Does the job until I can afford something better.

Strength:

Light Weight
Metal mount
Long zoom range
Surprisingly sharp lens

Weakness:

Feels cheap
Could be a faster lens
Slowish autofocus

If you are on a budget, this is not a bad lens to own. I was reluctant to purchase it but went ahead anyway and have not been dissapointed. Long zoom range is very handy for keeping your distance for an impromptu portrait.
