DESCRIPTION

Compact and lightweight 4x telephoto zoom lens ideal for shooting sports, portraits, and wildlife. The newly developed Micro USM makes autofocusing quicker and quieter. Strength:

-surprisingly sharp even at 300mm
-light weight
-good zoom range

Weakness:

-USM not as fast as I expected it to be
-zoom ring moves if you put in a vertical position
-difficult to use filters because of the huge lenshood

A good lens for its price!
However, you should buy it without USM because it isn't much faster.

Worst glass quality ever seen from a Canon Lens

If you can afford ANY OTHER LENS go for it. This Lens in Canon's otherwise impeccible Lens line up is just Horrid. Even a beginner will grow out of this one very quickly.
I am getting older now so weight is becoming important -- however the quality degradation of this Lens would want me to stop photography and take up the Piano instead.
Get anything else instead even beginners out there a 50 MM 1.8 Prime can be had for peanuts and is much much better

Feels loose and very delicate

I purchased the lens without any knowledge at all (as part of an EOS 30 (Elan7E) kit), but as luck has it, it suites my current needs. Will replace this lens soon though. Takes terrible photos at night when compared to the CANON EF 28MM-90MM USM lens i also received.

Weakness:

AF is slow
Contrast is not incredible

I bought this lens because I was on a budget but wanted to extend my focal lenght. I personnaly have found that if you use the lens in good conditions it will perform well for it's price but it's slow and I often use a monopod just in case. If your a casual amateur you will like this lens and the small lack in image quality will not bother you.

Strength:

Lightweight, inexepensive

Weakness:

Flimsy construction, lens tends lengthen when pointed downwards.

This lens is great for travel and will, contrary to some of the opinions above, render suitable image quality, though a bit lacking in contrast. The trick is 1) using a tripod or solid rest, 2) not relying on the auto focus, which is slow, noisy and tempermental, 3) keeping stopped down to about f/11 (which is necessary on most lenses to get decent blowups) and 4) staying under 300mm. Other lenses may take sharper photos and slides, but are heavy and cumbersome. This lens takes sharp 4x6 prints and can be coaxed into good 11x14s when the above guidelines are followed. At 75-100mm, it's a great portrait lens and is light enough is good for handheld spontaneous shots.

Strength:

Fast zoom, reasonable weight, good zoom ratio with a good aperture for the price.

Weakness:

Maybe too slow for some applications, but then you will spend much more.

Good choice for expanding your choices of focal length for a moderate price.

Strength:

This lens is very cheap and offers extended zoom capability for people short on cash or just looking for a disposable, convenient long-range zoom. It focuses at a reasonable speed for a long zoom, and has a fantastic range of view.

Weakness:

None with the lens itself, but I am frequently frustrated by its performance when manually focusing on objects farther away.

For casual photographers, the EF 75-300mm 4-5.6 is a good buy for anyone looking to extend their zoom range. A fixed length 210 or 300mm is helpful to have, though, when a faster lens is required.

I don't like it.

Weakness:

Picture Quality is very similar to 50 dollars fully automatic camera.
At 300 mm is really awful. This is how Canon makes money cheating you up. Still price is too high for the quality, specially when you buy from a non-professional, careless salesman in Switzerland. Be carefull.

Never touch the lens - junky !
