Adobe has released a second beta of the third version their popular Lightroom digital photography workflow and processing software. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Beta 2 is free and available for anyone to download. Among the new features and enhancements to Lightroom 3 Beta 2 are faster browsing, improved RAW image handling, point curve contrast control, tethered image capture (for selected Canon and Nikon DSLRs), luminance noise control, updated watermarking abilities, import workflow refinements and the addition of DSLR video support.
This isn’t a review and I haven’t tried Lightroom 3 myself. We will do a complete review when the final product is released, though. Hopefully we can get him to write up a detailed, hands-on report on the latest version. The new Lightroom 3 beta is not final, production software. Adobe is using the Lightroom 3 beta releases to test and collect feedback on the software, as they’ve done since they started developing Lightroom 1. There’s a dedicated Lightroom 3 forum on the Adobe Web site where users can share their thoughts and make feature and fix requests. I wrote a review on this new release along with some comparisons to Aperture 3. Video support is a step in the right direction but it has a long way to go to match Aperture 3.
