Introduction
The 10-megapixel Canon PowerShot SD 790 IS is an elegant pocket camera with a huge 3-inch LCD screen, 3x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization, Face Detection, Motion Detection, Canon’s DIGIC III image processing, and ISO 1600 sensitivity for low light shooting.

I covered the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China for the San Jose Mercury News. I brought the Canon PowerShot SD790 IS along so I could have a quick and easy digital camera in my pocket. For me, the main benefit of the SD 790 IS is its small size. Having it in my pocket all the time allowed me take “happy snaps” – quick photos of my surroundings without having to take out my big pro rig or worrying about camera settings.
