One very important thing a lot of people seem not to know about the Canon EOS Rebel T3i (EOS 600D outside the US) is that it has the same 18-megapixel CMOS sensor as the more expensive EOS 60D and EOS 7D digital SLRs. It also has the exact same 9120 x 1080 full HD video. With the T3i you can have the same image quality and video performance as the 60D and 7D but for far less money. The T3i also has a 3-inch tilt-swivel LCD display – a feature the 7D doesn’t have (the 60D does). Because of its high-end performance at a budget price, the T3i / 600D has been one of the best-selling digital SLRs since it was announced. It’s especially loved by beginning filmmakers because the video quality is so good and the price is so low compared to “pro” HD DSLRs.     How on earth could you guys not include the Canon SX230HS with a 14x zoom, image stabilization, HD video with mini HDMI out, and many more great features all for under $200 street price. Your overall selection is pretty lame considering the truly fabulous cameras out there. A few of your selections are just plain pathetic. Who is paying you off??

    I can’t help laughing a bit at your comment, Ollie. Diplomacy is not one of your skills, I guess. Still, thanks for the comment and thanks for mentioning the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS, which I actually own. And I agree with you – it is an awesome camera. That’s why I bought it. Pocket superzooms like the SX230 HS are actually my favorite kind of compact camera. I have been pushing them hard outside of this guide (my pocket superzoom camera guide) and I was disappointed I didn’t get to include one in this list. I did try to explain how I made my choices in the introduction. I only chose ten cameras and I based them on what was popular on the site and what is selling well on Amazon. No matter how I make a top cameras list I’m going to leave something out and someone is going to think its lame. That’s why I encouraged our readers – and you – to post their picks in the comments. That way you get to voice your opinion, tell me I’m lame and tell people what camera you think is best. So thanks for your contribution. And no – no one is paying us off :-)
