Gary Fong Inc. has entered a new photographic space with the launch of its GearGuard line. Known for its array of lighting accessories, Gary Fong designed the GearGuard line in response to an ongoing snatch-and-grab threat faced by professional and amateur photographers.
The GearGuard series offers various security devices which can combine to provide a seamless theft prevention system. The flagship products in this line are the GearGuard Camera Body Lock and the Bag Lock. The Camera Body Lock attaches to the camera’s tripod mount, so it can remain attached while shooting, and still allow the user to quickly attach it to any anchor point using the Security Cable and Combination Lock. The Camera Bag Lock closes securely over the quick release buckles on most camera bags to prevent roaming hands from accessing the main compartments.
To better connect with potential users, Gary Fong, Inc. is now using Microsoft Tag scanning technology. To use the re-printable tag included below to view the demonstration video:

The Gary Fong GearGuard Camera Body Lock and the Bag Lock (sold as a set of two units) are available for $9.95. The Combination Lock and 36″ steel security cable are sold separately and are also available for $9.95.

“To better connect with potential users, Gary Fong, Inc. is now using Microsoft Tag scanning technology. ”
So, if I understand this right, Gary Fong doesn’t want to demonstrate his product to the masses, he’d rather have me jump through hoops to provide him the ability to collect personal information, so he can spam my smartphone/inbox later? That in itself is enough for me not to investigate further as to whether I’d actually be interested in purchasing one of these…
I’ve never heard of the Microsoft Tag scanning system. Does it actually have something to do with the product or is it unrelated?
