PocketWizard Announces New MiniTT1 Transmitter and FlexTT5 Transceiver

PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver “The PocketWizard MiniTT1 Transmitter is the start of a new era in wireless trigger control.”

At first glance, it might be easy to think the new PocketWizard MiniTT1 Transmitter and FlexTT5 Transceiver are just smaller, restyled versions of previous PocketWizard radio slaves. But that’s not the case. They are much more than they appear to be and truly offer photographers increased performance and functionality.

Radio slaves allow photographers to use off-camera flash without cables and are standard equipment for studio and action sports photographers. The new PocketWizard MiniTT1 Transmitter and FlexTT5 Transceiver offer Canon and Nikon SLR users full wireless E-TTL II and i-TTL flash metering control. Previous PocketWizard radio slaves simply triggered the strobe and flash metering was completely manual. That meant off-camera flash photography with PocketWizards required careful setup, metering and testing to ensure proper exposure. But with the new MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 changes to aperture, shutter speed, ISO and flash exposure compensation will automatically be transmitted to the flash. That means no more running back and forth between your camera and flash to change settings. It’s true that Canon and Nikon both offer optical flash slaves with TTL flash metering. But optical slaves are temperamental, need line-of-site connection and don’t have near the reach of radio controlled slave units. Radio slaves are almost always preferable. Add TTL flash metering to their range and reliability and it’s a no-brainer.

Anyone who’s ever owned the older PocketWizard Plus and MultiMAX units will be pleased (and jealous) to learn that the new MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 slaves require no cables or adapters. Slide either one onto your camera’s flash hotshoe and slide your flash onto the FlexTT5′s built-in hotshoe and you’re ready to go. PocketWizard’s HyperSync Technology syncs the flash trigger timing to allow shutter speeds as high as 1/500th second, making the new MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 even more exciting for action sports photographers and anyone else who benefits from high flash sync speeds. The included PocketWizard Utility software allows firmware upgrades via the USB port as well as controlling channel settings, sleep-mode timing, and HyperSync settings.
