I tried to find more specs on this camera but they didn’t appear to be up on the Samsung site yet. But based on what I’m seeing in the photos attached, this could be the ultimate new pocket superzoom. If the LCD is 3 inches, then the whole body length should be approxiamtely 4.5-inches – about the same length as an iPhone. If it’s about an inch thick, that will make it a tight fit, but a fit nonetheless for a pants pocket. It’s been quite a while since i used a Samsung point-and-shoot. But I think I need to get one of these for review. A 24mm wide-angle 15x zoom that fits in pocket? Yes, please!

there’s definitely a lot to be said for this camera. I suspect it’ll have a tiny 1/2.33″ sensor. anything bigger than that would be the icing on the cake, i guess.

but i, too, am anxious to see full specs. I imagine we’ll see them soon.

I have just added a 3rd page to this article that has the spec sheet that was included with the official press release.

Does the lens retract into the body. All of the pictures of the camera show the lens extended. If it does retract I will buy one as soon as it is available.

  • Patrick says:

Does anyone know if the Samsung HZ30W can zoom while taking videos? Does it cut off the audio? Optical zoom or Digital? If you can answer, thanks.

  • Marcus says:

The lens retracts into the body.
You can zoom whilst videoing but it cuts sound whilst zooming.
It has 15x optical zoom and a further 5x digital.
this link will take you to full spec and the manual for download.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, it can zoom while recording in video mode. I saw one at Costco yesterday and played with it. I did noticed, however, that it had a hard time focusing at narrow focal lengths (as you near the 15x range).

  • Asim says:

The sound cut in video during zooms is actually optional and part of the default setting in order to eliminate the zooming motor noise! You can turn this option off in the menu; try googling it if could not find where.

  • Mike says:

How loud is the zoom noise if you don’t enable the audio cutoff?
