Summary:
Well, let me start out by saying I don’t shoot video so I can’t base any of this review on the A99’s video capability. Right out of the box I noticed how the A99 looks like the A77. They are almost the same size but the A99 is just ever so slightly bigger…

But the biggest improvement is in image quality. First – the noise. This is one of the first things critiqued when a new camera comes out. How do the pictures look when shooting high ISO? I am not sure why this has always been such an issue. I guess it is something you can see first-hand looking at shots on the internet. But more important to me is dynamic range and color depth. The A99 images are very clean up to 6400 ISO. Higher than that and the A99 starts to fall off. But it is almost as good if not as good as the Nikon D800. I would think the Nikon might have an edge but I can’t see why people wouldn’t be happy with the A99’s noise levels. It is a good stop and a half to two stops better than the A77 or A850… (read more)
