The SLT-A77 DSLR is Sony’s latest and greatest. It features their SLT translucent mirror design, which gives it a 12 FPS burst rate and allows it to use continuous auto focus for video. It’s got a new 24.3-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor, a new 19-point AF system with 11 super-accurate cross-type sensors, sensitivity from ISO 50 to ISO 16,000, a weather-sealed magnesium body, 1/250th second flash sync, separate shutter release and aperture control dials, built-in GPS and a shutter rated for 150k actuations. Like last year’s award winning SLT-A55, the A77 offers performance and specs far beyond other cameras in its price range. Consider the A77 a grenade that Sony just tossed into the $1500 APS-C prosumer DSLR category.

Nice guide John
Thanks, Greg. It got kind of out of hand. I didn’t intend the inro to be so long but I thought the Sony system needed more introduction than Nikon and Canon, since Sony is a relative newcomer to the camera business and some of their technology is probably mysterious to the average camera shopper.
