About nhatgnat
I have worked as a staff photographer for newspapers for the past 10 years.
For the past 6 years I've been at the San Jose Mercury News where I've
covered everything from the Olympics to community parades. Before the
Mercury News I worked as a staff photographer at the Virginian-Pilot in
Norfolk, Va. I grew up in Colorado and graduated from the University of
Missouri with a bachelors degree.
Although I do a little bit of everything at the Mercury News, most of my
time is spent shooting sports in the fall and spring - mainly pro and
college football and then college basketball. Every-so-often I'll cover a
baseball or hockey game.
My first 35mm slr was a Minolta 7000 when I was 12 years old, I gave up all
holiday presents and allowance for a year for the camera. Before that I had
many 110's and a poloroid camera. My best friend from high school and I
produced a ski magazine called Glucose; another ski magazine, when we were
in high school, which had sponsors and advertisers. We published three
issues and the magazine ended when we went to seperate colleges. After
attending one year at the University of Colorado at Boulder I transfered to
the University of Missouri at Columbia to attened their photo journalism
program.
I've lived in Pennsylvania, Texas, Colorado, Utah, Virginia, Missouri, North
Carolina, Wisconsin and now California.
